If it’s possible to eat, sleep, and drink music, Ritchie Smith Francisco, and Yasmine Smith surely understood this concept. Ritchie and Yasmine established Francisco Media as a collective unit to create musical projects that are original, innovative, and forward-thinking.
Mother-daughter songwriting and producing teams are rare in the music industry. Ritchie and Yasmine’s close bond strengthens their personal and professional relationship. They are both motivated by a deep passion and love for music.
Ritchie attended Houston’s prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and later received a degree in Music Education from The University of Houston. Performing in ensembles and as a solo artist helped Ritchie develop into a well-rounded musician.
Yasmine dreamed of performing on her favorite Disney and Nickelodeon television shows at a young age. These dreams came to a standstill due to a series of personal tragedies. Music became a source of healing that helped Yasmine triumph over adversity. Writing about life experiences in her songs became therapeutic for Yasmine.
Ritchie and Yasmine relocated from Houston, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee. This mother-daughter team knew that leaving their hometown would be risky. The opportunity to create music in the Songwriting Capital of the World was worth this life-changing move.
This mother-daughter team composed music for the documentary, In The Shadows. The film premiered at Nashville’s Belcourt Theater and addressed the struggles of African American teenage female identity.
Ritchie co-wrote music with award-winning director D. Channsin Berry for the documentary Dark Girls 2 on OWN. The documentary examined the issue of colorism on a global scale.
Ritchie and Yasmine were featured in the May 2021 issue of Reel Luminere Magazine. The article described what it was like for the mother-daughter duo to work in the entertainment industry.
Yasmine released two pop/indie songs in 2022. “Drown” was released in January, and “Not Surprised” was released in March. The songs showcase Yasmine’s unique and distinctive musical style.
Ritchie and Yasmine are currently working on several musical and film projects scheduled for release in 2022.
